Flight Weather Briefer

At minimum, pilots should be briefed with the following graphical products:

• Horizontal Weather Depictions (HWD)

• Upper Wind Chart

• Flight Forecast Packets

• Instrument Flight Rules Chart (IFR)

All charts should be prepared in:

• pencil

• dark blue ink

• black ink

• red ink

All HWDs will at a minimum depict atmospheric conditions from SFC to ____ ft above the flight level and be within _____ NM of the flight route.

• 25 NM

Required entries on the HWD include:

• cloud coverage that is 5/8 or more

• areas of CB and TCU

VWDs should represent areas of cloudiness, all areas of thunderstorms, and:

• height of the freezing level above MSL

• wind speed and direction at 5000 ft increments

• areas of icing/turbulence

• tornadic activity

• freezing levels 3000 ft above station pressure
