Where might you find a medic alert?

How do you assess if a patient has a fractured hip?

• Palpate gently for tenderness and deformity

• Rock the hip side to side

• Push down hard on both sides of the hips

• Pull the patients legs

What is a flail chest?

• When patients have their arms flailed across their chest

• Simple rib fracture

• The scar left by an internal defibrillator

• An area of ribs with multiple fractures leading to paradoxical breathing

When putting someone in the recovery position, where should you put patient belongings?

• In their hand, closest to you

• Give them to a stranger to hold on to
