The Global Flyer Mission

The video discusses the mission of the Virgin Atlantic Global Flyer, sponsored by Richard Branson's Virgin airline, to fly around the world non-stop without refueling. The plane, piloted by adventurer Steve Fossett, was designed with 83% of its weight as fuel and had 13 fuel tanks feeding a single jet engine. It used a special aviation fuel to minimize freezing risks and flew eastward to utilize prevailing winds. The flight path had to cover at least 36,787.559 kilometers to be recognized as a record. In 2005, the Global Flyer completed its flight in over 67 hours, and in 2006, Fossett set another record for the longest non-stop flight of over 41,000 kilometers.
