Howard Hughes' Constellation Transport Plane Breaks Speed Record

The Constellation, the world's fastest transport plane, prepared in Burbank, California, made a historic non-stop flight from coast to coast in under seven hours. With four powerful engines, it carried 57 passengers at over 300 miles per hour. The plane, designed like a fighter, broke Howard Hughes' 1937 record by 30 minutes. Hughes, with co-pilot Jack Frye, oversaw its design. Secretary of Commerce Jesse Jones praised their achievement. The Constellation is now set to serve the army.
