Remains of 4,000-year-old lost city in China discovered

Researchers have discovered a 4000-year-old lost city named Shamal on a ridge above China's Two Way River. The city flourished from 2300 BC to 1800 BC, covering an area of 988 acres. A massive step pyramid, at least 230 feet high and stretching 59 acres at its base, was found. The pyramid, built from a hill with eleven steps, was protected by inner and outer walls. Atop the pyramid were palaces made of rammed earth, wooden pillars, and roofing tiles, along with a large water reservoir and domestic remains. The findings were published in the Journal Antiquity.
