Experts estimate more than 1,700 people are infected by China’s virus outbreak

The BBC reports on the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China, which has resulted in 3 deaths and over 200 infections. Researchers from the MRC Center for Global Infectious Disease warn that the actual number of cases may be higher than reported. The virus has spread to Thailand and Japan, and there is speculation that it crossed from animals to humans at a market in Wuhan. The new coronavirus resembles SARS and is part of a large family of viruses, with only seven known to infect humans.
