VOICED : Argentina desarrolla suero terapéutico para tratar pacientes con covid-19

Argentinian researchers have developed a therapeutic serum that can neutralize the coronavirus in vitro. This potential treatment is entering clinical trials with 250 patients across 15 hospitals. Unlike vaccines, which take longer to develop, this serum could immediately block the virus in early-stage COVID-19 patients, preventing disease progression. The serum is produced by injecting a coronavirus protein into horses, which then generate antibodies. This method is safe for horses and allows for large-scale production. The serum's neutralizing power is significantly higher than that of convalescent plasma, marking it as the first potential COVID-19 treatment developed in Argentina through public and private collaboration.
