The United States has authorized the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for adolescents aged 12 to 15. The vaccine, administered in two doses similar to adults, showed strong antibody responses in trials. Vaccinating adolescents is expected to help curb the pandemic and facilitate full-time school reopenings. From March 2020 to April 2021, about 1.5 million youths aged 11 to 17 contracted COVID-19. Vaccination will be available at pharmacies and later through pediatricians. Pfizer-BioNTech plans to seek emergency use authorization for children aged 2 to 11 by September and for those aged six months to two years by the fourth quarter. Other vaccines, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, are authorized for adults 18 and older.
