Italy Places Millions Of People On Lockdown In Effort To Contain Virus

Italy has imposed a lockdown on parts of the country to curb the spread of COVID-19. The decree affects the Lombardi region and 14 provinces, including Milan and Venice. Travel out of these areas requires special permission, and restrictions are in place until April 3rd. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte acknowledged the sacrifices required. The announcement led to a rush at train stations as people tried to leave before the quarantine. Schools, public events, and spaces like nightclubs and gyms are closed. Globally, over 109,000 cases have been confirmed, with Italy being the hardest-hit European country, reporting over 7,000 cases and 300 deaths.
