The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) met in Cardiff to decide the host for the Euro 2012 Championships. UEFA President Michel Platini announced that Poland and Ukraine were selected over Italy and a joint bid from Croatia and Hungary. This marks the first time either country will host a major tournament. The Polish cities of Gdansk, Poznan, Warsaw, and Wroclaw, along with Ukrainian cities Kiev, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Lviv, will host games. Kiev's Olympic Stadium is proposed for the final, while Donetsk and Warsaw are developing new stadiums.
