On August 6, 1945, the U.S. dropped a uranium bomb on Hiroshima, killing an estimated 140,000 people. Seventy years later, Japan held a ceremony at the Hiroshima Peace Monument Park, attended by 55,000 people, including Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and representatives from 100 countries. Japan, having experienced nuclear devastation, aims to create a world without nuclear weapons and plans to present a resolution to the UN. Three days later, Nagasaki will commemorate its own atomic bombing, which resulted in 74,000 deaths. These bombings led to Japan's surrender on August 15, 1945, ending WWII.
