Jamila Kaya, a security researcher, identified 90 Chrome extensions with malicious code. Google, upon further analysis, found over 500 infected extensions. These extensions injected ads, led users to specific sites, and sometimes directed them to phishing or malware sites. If unchecked, they could collect user data and generate revenue. Google has since removed and deactivated these extensions, marking them as malicious to prevent reactivation.
