Costa Rica is renowned for its environmental awareness. A new project allows tourists to calculate and compensate for their travel's environmental cost. The initiative includes a calculator for emissions and uses donations for reforestation and watershed protection. Launched at El Jicaral farm, the project supports organic farming and tourism. Despite economic challenges, Costa Rica's environmental efforts, like the 1997 Payment for Environmental Services system, have been recognized globally, helping restore forest coverage to 54% of the country.
