Once upon a time, there lived a kind woodcutter. One day, he was cutting a tree near a river when his axe slipped from his hand and fell into the water. He sat down and cried. Suddenly, a fairy appeared and asked, "Why are you crying?" The woodcutter told her about his axe. The fairy dived into the river and came up with a golden axe. "Is this your axe?" she asked. "No," said the woodcutter. The fairy dived again and brought up a silver axe. "Is this your axe?" she asked. "No," he replied. The fairy dived once more and brought up his old axe. "Is this your axe?" she asked. "Yes!" he exclaimed with joy. The fairy was pleased with his honesty and gave him all three axes.
