What is the best paraphrase of this passage? "Well, almost nothing. As a matter of fact, he thought, I don't know what I've got or haven't got. Maybe I should try and figure out just how I stand. It will give me something to do—keep me from thinking of food. Until they come to find me."

Brian’s view of the situation is beginning to change. He starts to look for ways to survive in the wilderness.

Brian decided to see what resources he had in order to distract himself from the hunger he felt.

Brian found one activity that would help him stop thinking about how hungry he felt. He wanted to stop thinking about that until other people located him. To do that, he would see what he had brought with him and what he hadn’t brought with him.

Brian realized that he was not sure what things he had with him or what things he didn’t have with him. He decided to find out. This would distract him from all of his thoughts about hunger while he waited for other people to locate him.
