C6c. Smart Goal. Choose all that apply.
A S.M.A.R.T goal that I have is to build strong relationships with my fellow teachers within the next year. I think that networking and communication is very important especially as a teacher and having professional development goals is important. Taking the time to cultivate relationships is crucial towards professional development because one day these people may be very important to me as a teacher. Networking with teachers and administrators with other schools to get familiar with the community around me is also very important and that is something that I would like to accomplish.

C6c. Smart Goal: Choose all that apply.
A professional development opportunity I believe would expand my knowledge and further my development as a teacher is participating in conferences and hearing other teachers’ methods. Being open to new methods and practices within a classroom I feel is important when you want to be the best teacher you can be. Which connects to the SMART goal I assigned to myself which is incorporating new teaching strategies into my lessons. I feel like this interview influenced my understanding of the role of the teacher for the better. I didn’t realize at first that not only are you teaching them the knowledge that they will need for the future, but you also being a positive influence in their life. That the knowledge aspect of this job is only a part of it and being able to create a relationship with the students is also an important part

C6c. Smart Goal. Choose all that apply.
My SMART goal is to learn sign language. Starting with the alphabet will give another avenue for the students with autism I assist to learn their letters, and sounds. This can be learned within a few weeks hopefully. Using posters, I can reenforce this new style of learning with those students. This can make way for simple words like bathroom, sit, please, and thank you. This will help with learners who need to see another physical dimension to what they are learning in order to grasp the concept of letters, sounds, and eventually words.

A SMART goal that I have set for myself is developing new teaching strategies. I do not want to become a teacher with knowledge of only one method. It is important to me to be aware of the many different methods and ways of teaching to better suit each student and class. A development opportunity in my community or online that is available and aligns with my smart goal is a course through SimpleK12 called Implementing Differentiated Instruction. This course is made available through my local school district for no charge. This will help me use the various methods I learn as a student and put them to use through differentiated instruction.
