• Remove your gloves and wash your hands

• Double check the circulation and loosen the bandage if need be

  If the bleeding is controlled, check circulation

• Cover the wound with a gauze pad and apply pressure.

While on a jog in the park, you notice a child crying and has a wound on her arm. After checking the scene and implying consent what steps do you take to help her?

• Once bleeding is controlled, check for circulation

• Place a bandage over the dressing and tie it off

• Double check for circulation and loosen the bandage if needed

• Talk to and re-assure the child as you start to provide care

  
  Cover the wound with a sterile gauze pad and apply pressure

• If need be apply more gauze pads on top of the original

  
  If the bleeding doesn't stop in a few minutes call 9-1-1

Put the steps for a tourniquet in the correct order.

• Note the time that you applied the tourniquet and continue to tend to the victim

• Attach the tourniquet, pull it tight and then tighten it with the rod until the bleeding stops

  
  

• Recognize that you cannot control the bleeding and inform the person you need to apply a tourniquet

  
  

• Secure the rod in place to lock the tourniquet. If need be, tighten more, but do not remove. 

• Place the tourniquet around the limb, about 2 inches above the wound

  
  

Why is a tourniquet a last resort?

• It is painless and easy to use
• It is the most effective method
• It does not restrict blood flow
• It can cause tissue damage and lead to amputation.

Your at your cousin's birthday party and your sister accidentally kicks a heater and now has a small thermal burn on her right foot. After checking the scene what do you do to treat the burn?

• 
  Cool the burn using cool or cold potable water for at least 10 minutes

• 
  Cover the burn loosely with a sterile dressing

• Remove the source of the heat
