The Saber toothed tiger is a relative of today’s tiger. It became extinct about 8,000 years ago and had two long canine teeth that were 11 inches long. These fangs were serrated like a steak knife. Because the teeth were so long, the tiger needed a mouth that opened extra wide and a strong neck. It was not a fast runner, so the tiger would stalk its prey, jump on it and knock it off balance.
