• It is helpful to look at individuals’ performances and to see how they have progressed over time.

• Early years managers and head teachers will look regularly at pupils’ assessment data to see how individuals are moving forward.

How does national assessments support the regulation of state-funded provision?

• It is important that they are accountable for the way in which they work.

• To ensure that they are working at a high standard.

• It does not support the regulation as it is only assessing to children perform in tests.

• Where the government, through the taxpayer, funds educational settings (state-funded provision) they need to be seen to give value for money.
