Formal (Usted & Ustedes) commands

Formal commands are used to give orders or advice to people you address as:

• Tú

• nosotros

• usted or ustedes

• by a first name

First step in forming the formal usted and ustedes commands is:

• Use present tense yo command and drop the "o"

• keep in infinitive

• change the spelling

• attach a pronoun

Verbs that have an irregular yo form in the present tense DO NOT keep that irregularity in the formal commands.

Stem-changing verbs in the present tense yo form KEEP the stem-change in the usted and ustedes commands.
