The Ancient Mariner

At the beginning of the story the Ancient Mariner stopped somebody from going to a:

• Birthday party

• Wedding

• Easter celebration

• Anniversary

When the ancient mariner stops the guest he repeats one line, what was it?

• "I have a tale to tell"

• "Heed me"

• "There was a ship"

• "Listen carefully"

When the ship sailed it was caught in a storm and pushed south, but when the wind died down they had a new problem.

What was it?

• It got very cold

• The sails had ripped

• The ship was leaking

• They had no water

When the ship started to sail between icebergs the mariner described them as:

• Horrible, cold statues

• Beautiful....They shone with blue and green fire.

• Ominous and cold as the grave

• Towering white mountains

While they were passing through the icebergs, something new started to happen.

What was it?

• The icebergs were breaking

• The sun started to shine

• The crew fell ill

• The sea started to freeze

What type of bird started to follow the ship?

• Seagull

• Penguin

• Albatross

• Eagle

Why did the mariner shoot the albatross?

• He was hungry

• He didn't know

• He was angry

• He was scared

What did the mariners crewmates do to punish him?

• Hung the dead albatross around his neck

• Keelhauled him (really nasty punishment!)

Things started to really go poorly for the ship at this point, but when they saw a strange black ship things got even worse.

What happened?

• The mariner's ship sank

• They were boarded by pirates

• The crew jumped to the other ship and left the mariner alone

• All 200 of the crew fell down dead except the mariner

Eventually, the ancient mariner is rescued close to his home and since then travels around telling people his story.

Why?

• To earn money from telling scary stories

• To remind people that it's a beautiful world and to never forget how fortunate they are

• He wants to feel important

• He wants people to remember his friends on the ship
