What are the other reasons that it's important to attend and participate in live classes? (apart from the fact that you'll get zero in participation which counts towards summer mark)

• So that you don’t fall behind on your education - Falling behind will make you feel stressed

• To check in with your teachers and classmates and so they can check in with you - being in contact with other people, even online, is essential to avoid becoming isolated (it can help prevent loneliness, boredom and sadness)

• To have structure to your day to keep from getting really bored and feeling lethargic (that feeling where you constantly feel tired and unable to do anything)

• All of the above

How can you show participation in live classes?

• Make sure to be very active in the chat box - Like comments and write any questions you have

• Use the hands up icon when you want to ask your teacher something

• When your teacher asks you to unmute and speak do so quickly (And answer in the chat if there is an issue with your microphone)

• If you need to leave for a moment (toilet, answer door etc.) tell the teacher in chat and come straight back

Is it okay to log in late to class or leave the class early

• No! Just like in regular school you have about 3 minutes after the class starts to arrive (to take into account that you may need to use the bathroom, may be held longer in other classes) but only in exceptional circumstances should you join late or leave early. You must explain this to the teacher!

When is it acceptable to miss a live class?

• Just like in school you should only miss a class in exceptional circumstances: the following are some examples of exceptional circumstances

• If you have an appointment (doctor, dentist etc.)

• If you have to take care of younger siblings

• Anytime you don't feel like going

• If you have too much work to do from other classes

Is it okay to log in but then not participate?

• Yes

What do you do if you need to miss one?

• Tell your teacher or year head IN ADVANCE that you won’t be in the live class and explain why.

• If it’s last minute write the teacher a quick message if at all possible

• Afterwards look at the live recording of the class if available, (see in Posts in your team) or the notes/powerpoint used in the class. Check Files & Assignments for these BEFORE you message your teacher asking for them

• Just miss it and don't worry about it

How do you know you have a live class?

• Jut remember in your head

• Use the Calendar option in teams

• You should always check - Keep your normal school calendar open in your journal and always check if you have a live class at the scheduled time
