What is evaporation?

• The cold air causes the sea water to rise.

• The sun warms the sea turning it into water vapour. Salts are left behind.

• A tornado gathers the water with the salts causing it to rise.

What is condensation?

• The warm air rises and as it does this it cools , causing the water vapour to condense forming clouds.

• The warm air rises and gets dispersed over the land by gusts of wind.

What happens to the clouds formed by condensation?

• The clouds formed get carried along by the wind and this allows the droplets inside to get smaller and smaller.

What is precipitation?

• This is when the water droplets in the clouds fall as a type of water e.g snow or rain.

• This is when the water rises up out of the clouds due to the heat.

Where does the fallen rain go?

• All of the water runs along the top of the ground as it can’t soak through.

• Some of the water fallen runs along the ground whilst the rest soaks into the ground.

• All of the water soaks into the ground because none of it can stay on the top.

What does the river do once precipitation has occured?

• The river is simply a place where extra water is stored.

• The river acts as a barrier stopping any extra water from reaching the sea.

• The river where the water will eventually end up carries the water back to the sea.

What is surface runoff?

• This is the water that runs along the top of the ground.

• This is when the water can’t run along the top.

What is infiltration?

• The water which soaks into the ground.

• The water that feeds the trees and plants.

What is throughflow?

• The water which simply soaks through to the core of the earth.

• The water which soaks down goes through the soil whilst some runs down the slope to the river , the throughflow.

What is groundwater?

• This is the water which has soaked far enough down so that it can fill up the pores and cracks in the rocks.

• This is the water which cannot flow down and gets stopped by the ground.
