Macbeth Act 1 Scene 4-7

What do we learn at the very beginning of Act 1, Scene 4?

• Duncan is not coming to Macbeth's castle.

• The Thane of Cawdor has been executed.

• Malcolm is not really Duncan's son.

• Macbeth has become Thane of Gamis

When Malcolm is named Prince of Cumberland, Macbeth says this in the red rectangle. What does he mean?

• He prays that Malcolm will vanish in the night so he can become king
• He wants night to come so he can hurry up and kill Malcolm
• He doesn't want anyone to see in his eyes his own desire to be king
• He prays that no one else knows that he's been talking to the evil witches

Why does Malcolm's promotion to Prince of Cumberland upset Macbeth?
