COMPARING
FRACTIONS
Comparing fractions means determining the larger and the smaller fraction between any two or more fractions.
Since fractions are made up of two parts - a numerator and a denominator, they are compared using a certain set of rules. Let us learn more about comparing fractions in this lesson.
13
Do you remember the song Chancellor Grizzell taught us in devotion about
numerators and denominators?
The numerator is on the top.
The denominator is on the bottom.
If I have a problem, I believe I can solve it!

14
Comparing Fractions with Same Denominators
15
Comparing Fractions with Unlike Denominators
If ALL numerators and denominators are different,
the fraction with a smaller denominator has a greater value.
If the numerators are the same,
the fraction with the smaller denominator has a greater value.
16
When the fraction has the same numerator and denominator it will ALWAYS equal 1 whole.
Same Numerator and Denominator
Remember, a fraction is in parts, so
1 whole is ALWAYS MORE than fraction parts.
