Lesson 87: Perimeter
By Cortney Rose
2
Perimeter
The total distance around an object or shape is called the perimeter.
You find the perimeter by adding all the sides together. In this example, 7+7+3+3=20

You can find missing sides
We can set up an equation to solve this problem.
We assume this shape is a rectangle.
We give the missing sides value x.
30= 2x+7+7
30= 2x+14
16=2x
8=x

Lesson 88: Area
Area
Area is how many 1x1 unit squares will fit inside a shape. Different formulas allow us to find the areas of different shapes.
11
Area of a square or rectangle
Instead of counting up little squares, it is faster to multiply length by width. Other shapes have different formulas.

Lesson 89: Area of a Triangle
17
Math Response
What is the area of a triangle that has a base measuring 15 feet and a height measuring 6 feet?
18
Math Response
What is the area of a triangle with base 9 feet and height 6 feet?

Lesson 90: Area in parts
If you are given a strange shape and asked to find the area, you can do so by finding the area of the shapes that make up the strange shape.
20
Part it out
This shape consists of two different rectangles. It's up to you how to divide it out, but the easiest way is to have one rectangle measure 10x4 ad the other 3x8.
Then find the area of each rectangle and add them up.
21
Squares and triangles
This shape consists of a triangle and a rectangle. We can find the total area by finding the area of the triangle (1/2*base*height) and the area of the rectangle (length * width).
