Contractions

Some word groups can be combined to form one word with the same meaning. These words are called contractions.


When you combine the words, you use an apostrophe.

Definitons

  • The words am, are, & is can be combined with pronouns.

  • Pronouns can be substitutes for common and proper nouns.

  • I + am = I'm

  • you + are = you're

  • she + is = she's ; he + is = he's ; it + is = it's

  • we + are = we're

  • they + are = they're

  • *Note: You do not change any letters in the pronouns.
