What is a square?

How to Square A Number:

To square a number: multiply it by itself.

Example: What is 3 squared?

3 Squared= 3 × 3 = 9

 "Squared" is often written as a little 2 in the upper right corner of the number (the little 2 says the number appears twice in multiplying)

Multiple Choice

To solve for x when x2=121x^2=121 we take the square root of both sides of the equation x2=121\sqrt[]{x^2}=\sqrt[]{121}

the square root of x squared is x so we write x=±121x=\pm\sqrt[]{121}

the ±\pm tells us that x will have two solutions {11, -11}

how many values of x will solve x2=121\sqrt[]{x^2}=\sqrt[]{121}

Steps to approximate cube roots

  • Locate the closest perfect cube root (one smaller, one bigger)

  • Decide which one is actually closer to the desired radicand

  • Approximate its value if it was on a number line.
