Matter changes all the time; some are big and some are small.

Two kinds of changes:

Physical or chemical

Physical Change

• No new substance formed

• Result in a change of state

• Has the same properties as original

• You can get it back to its original form easily

Chemical Change

• One or more new substancesa re formed

• New substance is different from original with different properties

• You can not get the original materials back easily or at all

Chemical Change Examples

• new color appears

• heat or light is given off

• bubbles of a gas are given off

• a precipitate (solid) is formed

• the change is difficult or impossible to reverse
