Probability
TEKS 7.6H I make qualitative and quantitative predictions
Determine experimental and theoretical probabilities
TEKS 7.6 A-E
Use lists and tree diagrams for events
Make predictions
2
Probability Scale
0% = Impossible to happen
25% = Unlikely
50% = Even Change
75% = Likely
100% = Certain
3
Drag and Drop
OR 0% and
4
Match
Match each event with its likelihood
impossible
Unlikely
As likely as not
Likely
Certain
A pig flying.
Picking a face card from a deck of cards.
Getting heads on a coin toss.
A sum greater than 4 when rolling 2 dice.
Rolling a number less than 7 on a die.
A pig flying.

A sum greater than 4 when rolling 2 dice.
Rolling a number less than 7 on a die.
5
Labelling
Place each word on the probability scale
6
Probability of Simple Events
Part (want).
Total (have)
***Always reduce/simplify
7
For example...
IF I toss a quarter, what is the probability that I will get heads? This is really asking what is the chance that I will land on heads?
8
What is the probability?
When you toss a coin, the chance that it will land on heads is 1 out of 2. This is because there is 1 side that is heads and there are two total options.
9
Different ways to write probability
You could say that there is a 1/2 chance or 1 out of 2 chance or 50% chance
10
Probability of the Spinner
Look at the spinner at your right.
How many possible outcomes are there?
11
Multiple Select
What is the probability of the spinner landing on blue? (Select all that apply)
2/10
1/5
2/8
1/2
12
Multiple Choice
Mrs. Trevino has 3 red pens, 5 pink pens, and 8 blue pens. What is the probability that she will choose a blue pen to grade papers?
1/2
8
3/16
16/8
13
Multiple Choice
A bag contains 15 yellow cubes, 6 blue cubes, and 4 red cubes. If you select a cube at random, what is the probability the cube will NOT be yellow?
25/15
2/5
15
5/3
14
How do you know if it is a complement problem?
When it says: Not [event]
Ex: What is the probability of Not rolling a number greater than 4?
Ex: P(Not greater than 4)
15
Multiple Choice
What is the probability of Not spinning blue?
P(Not Blue) = 1/4
P(Not Blue) = 1/2
P(Not Blue) = 2/3
P(Not Blue) = 3/4
16
Multiple Choice
What is the probability of NOT rolling a Prime Number on a six-sided number cube?
0/6
1/6
1/2
1/3
17
Theoretical vs Experimental Probability
18
Multiple Choice
Theoretical Probability is:
What will happen
What should happen
What I want to happen
What does happen
19
Theoretical Probability
20
Experimental Probability
21
Multiple Choice
Experimental Probability is:
What will happen
What should happen
What I think happens
What does happen
22
Multiple Choice
The bar graph shows the results of spinning the spinner 200 times. What is the experimental probability of landing on a 3?
23
Math Response
A car dealership has various combinations of vehicles in their car lot, all of which have equally likely chance of being selected. Use the list of options below to determine the probability of each vehicle being selected.
What is the probability of selecting an SUV with a Blue Exterior?
