2
Poll
Which one do you think is an example of compare/contrast in math?
3
Yep, they are all comparing/contrasting.
This is when you look at similarities and differences between numbers, quantities, or values to decide if it is greater than, smaller than or equal to another quantity.
How are they the same, and how are they different?
4
Poll
Which one defines exponent?
tells you how many times its base is used as a factor
tells you when it last went to outer space
tells you what to multiply by
tells you which flights and hotels are the cheapest
5
exponent
An exponent tells you how many times its base is used as a factor. Exponents are used to write repeated multiplication.
Here is an example:
103 = 10 x 10 x 10
6
Poll
What do you think power of 10 means?
Powers of 10 is a very useful way of writing down large or small numbers.
Instead of having lots of zeros, you show how many powers of 10 will make that many zeros
Example: 104 = 10 × 10 × 10 × 10 = 10,000
Powers of 10 is when you get to be 10 years old, you become very powerful.

Which one do you think describes exponential form?
a form you fill out for a travel site so you can get cheap flights
from another world, like E.T.
a shortcut for writing all of your math facts quickly
a shortcut for writing repeated multiplications by the same number

Which one is a digit?
The fingers on your hand
A single symbol used to make a numeral.
your phone number
the number of years you have been in school

Which one defines pattern in math?
something you trace around to make a shape
the pictures all over your shirt
an ordered set of numbers, shapes or other mathematical objects, arranged according to a rule.
the number of grapes in a bunch

Poll
Which one do you think describes reasoning?
it involves drawing logical conclusions based on evidence or stated assumptions
it is when you tell why you love math so much.
the stuff you add to a sauce to make it taste better
it involves the numbers you have to change so you can add fractions
15
involves drawing logical conclusions based on evidence or stated assumptions
We do this so we are able to use math in meaningful ways. We need to develop critical thinking skills to succeed in mathematics and in life.
reasoning

Poll
Which are examples of converting in math?
To change a value or expression from one form to another
17
To change a value or expression from one form to another.
converting
All of those were correct!

Poll
Which one is an example of an equation?
4+6=10
5x6
2+9
19
An equation is a mathematical sentence that has two equal sides separated by an equal sign. 4 + 6 = 10 is an example of an equation. We can see on the left side of the equal sign, 4 + 6, and on the right hand side of the equal sign, 10.

Poll
Which is an example of an expression?
6x7
4+5=9
9-7=2

What is an Expression?
An expression is a sentence with a minimum of two numbers and at least one math operation. This math operation can be addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The structure of an expression is:
Expression = (Number, Math Operator, Number)
For example,
= 7 + 9
= 23 × 4
= 37 – 6
= 25 + 9 – 4 ÷ 2
In all the given expressions, a math operator is used between the two numbers.
A math expression is different from a math equation. An equation will always use an equivalent (=) operator between two math expressions.
