3

Immigration: What is the issue?

The debate is not about whether we should allow immigration – it’s about how we do so in a way that protects American sovereignty, respects the rule of law, and is beneficial to all Americans.

4

View of Group #1

  • Support legal immigration only. Oppose amnesty(forgiveness) for those who enter the U.S. illegally (illegal immigrants).

  • The borders should be secured before addressing the problem of the illegal immigrants currently in the country.

  • Illegal immigrants weaken our economy.

5

View of Group #2

  • Support legal immigration. Support amnesty for those who enter the U.S. illegally (undocumented immigrants).

  • believe that undocumented immigrants have a right to:

    — all educational and health benefits that citizens receive (financial aid, welfare, social security and medicaid), regardless of legal status.

    — the same rights as American citizens.

  • It is unfair to arrest millions of undocumented immigrants.
