  • It affects how we think, feel, and act.

  • It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.

  • Eating disorders involve extreme emotions, attitudes, and behaviors involving weight and food.

  • Eating disorders can include anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating.

Mood Disorders:

  • Mood disorders involve persistent feelings of sadness or periods of feeling overly happy, or fluctuating between extreme happiness and extreme sadness.

  • Mood disorders can include depression, bipolar disorder, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and self-harm.

Other Disorders:

  • The three primary types of treatment settings for receiving mental health care or services are hospital inpatient, residential and outpatient settings.

Types of Treatment Facilities

  • Hospital inpatient settings involve an overnight or longer stay in a psychiatric hospital or psychiatric unit of a general hospital. 

  • Residential mental health treatment environments generally provide longer-term care for individuals.

  • Outpatient Settings involve office visits with no overnight stay. 

  • Partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) outpatient programs that patients attend for six or more hours a day, every day or most days of the week.

  • Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs)  outpatient programs only attended for three to four hours and often meet during evening hours to accommodate people who are working.
