Facts about Animal Adaptation and behavior
Terrestrial Animals
Terrestrial animals are animals that live predominantly or entirely on land (e.g., cats, ants, spiders), as compared with aquatic animals, which live predominantly or entirely in the water (e.g., fish, lobsters, octopuses), or amphibians, which rely on a combination of aquatic and terrestrial habitats (e.g., frogs, or newts).
5
Aquatic Animals
Amazing facts about aquatic animals Animals with some of the longest lives are the Marion’s tortoise (152 years), the fin whale (116 years) and the deep-sea clam (100 years). There are about 40 species or kinds of porpoises and dolphins. Porpoises and dolphins communicate with each other by squeaking, growling, moaning, and whistling.
6
Amphibians
Amphibians are a crucial link in the evolutionary chain between water dwelling fish and land dwelling vertebrates. ...
The first amphibians appeared on earth more than 370 million years ago during the Devonian period.
The Chinese giant salamander is the largest known amphibian reaching 180 cms.
The smallest amphibian is a frog known as the Paedophryne amauensis measuring 7.7 mm.
7
Arboreal
Arboreal: an adjective in biology for an animal which lives in the trees. All forests have had animals living in them. Those animals have adaptations which enable them to live and move about in trees. The earliest one known is Suminia, a synapsid of the late Permian, about 260 million years ago.
8
Aerial
Aerial animals are basically any animal who can naturally fly, glide, or soar in the air. Aerial animals include birds, insects, bats, sugar gliders, flying squirrels, and many others!
9
Vertebrates
Behavioural adaptations Behaviour is the set of responses that an organism makes to stimuli. Stimuli are environmental changes that an organism can detect. A behavioural adaptation is a behaviour that helps an organism to survive and/or reproduce in its environment.
10
Invertebrates
Invertebrates are animals without a backbone or bony skeleton. They range in size from microscopic mites and almost invisible flies to giant squid with soccer-ball-size eyes. This is by far the largest group in the animal kingdom: 97 percent of all animals are invertebrates.
11
Mammals
All mammals (apart from the duck-billed platypus) give birth to live babies, which are then fed on their mother's milk. Most mammals give their young more protection and training than other animals do. Mammals have hair or fur. ... Mammals are warm-blooded.
