Poetry is a type of literature that is short but has a deep message that expresses feelings, thoughts and ideas in short paragraphs called stanzas.
Stanza: a group of lines in a poem.
Poetry uses a lot of figurative language such as metaphors and similes to express ideas about common objects, people or situations.

Let's take a look at this poem on the right.
This poem contains 6 lines but only 2 stanzas. Some lines rhyme in poetry, but they don't have to.
Rhyme: when a line ends with the same sound as another line.
