REVIEW: Subatomic Particles and Nuclear Reactions
2
RECALL:
Atom, which is the basic unit of matter is composed of protons, neutrons, and electrons.
Protons are responsible in setting the identity of an element (e.g. 1 proton = hydrogen, 2 protons = helium, 3 = lithium and so forth...)
Neutrons act as the "glue" or binding force that hold the nucleus together.
Electrons are mainly responsible for chemical bonding (next lesson)
3
ATOMS CAN UNDERGO CHANGES THROUGH VARIOUS MEANS. THIS TIME, OUR FOCUS IS ON:
Nuclear Changes - analyzed with the help of nuclear equations
4
Let us have a quick review first of the subatomic particles before reviewing about nuclear equations.
