Miss Torres reads a story about Rainbow Crow, based on a Lenape myth. In a warm forest, Rainbow Crow and his friends, Owl and Coyote, face a sudden snowfall. The animals are unprepared for the cold, so they decide someone must ask the sun for warmth. Coyote and Owl cannot go, so Rainbow Crow volunteers. He flies to the sun, which cannot provide warmth but gives him a fiery stick to melt the snow. On his return, Rainbow Crow's feathers turn black from smoke, and he loses his singing voice. Despite this, he saves the forest, and the animals honor his bravery.
