In a tale of wit and laziness, a clever hare and a lazy bear become business partners. The hare proposes to plant crops on the bear's land, splitting the harvest. The bear chooses the top half, but the hare cleverly keeps the valuable parts. In subsequent seasons, the bear chooses differently, but the hare always outsmarts him. Eventually, the bear learns to plant his own crops, and the hare buys back his land, opening a vegetable stand. They remain neighbors but never business partners again.
