Transplant Patients Scared After COVID Vaccine Revelation

Candida Moss, a kidney transplant recipient, discovered that her COVID-19 vaccine did not produce an immune response. A Johns Hopkins study found that only 54% of vaccinated organ transplant recipients developed antibodies, often at lower levels than the general population. This is due to immunosuppressive medications that prevent organ rejection but also hinder vaccine efficacy. Over 700,000 organ transplants have occurred in the US, and many more Americans with autoimmune diseases face similar challenges. Despite these findings, experts recommend that transplant patients still get vaccinated while remaining cautious. The general population is urged to get vaccinated to protect those who are immunocompromised.
