Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Cardinal Philippe Barbaran, the Archbishop of Lyon, who was questioned for his silence on sexual abuse by a former priest. Although acquitted by the court, Barbaran offered his resignation to help heal the divided diocese and address victims' concerns. The Pope's acceptance was seen as a gesture of friendship. Barbaran was accused of failing to report abuses by Bernard Reinat against scouts from 1971 to 1991.
