The process, expected to last several days, is being monitored by representatives from both sides. Tibisay Lucena, a key figure in the electoral body, has accused opposition sectors of undermining the electoral power by claiming it serves the government. She emphasized that the electoral power operates independently, guided by the constitution and law. The National Electoral Council must validate these initial signatures before authorizing the collection of an additional four million signatures, representing 20% of the electoral register, to call the referendum.
