Somalia & other east African countries threatened by locust plague

The United Nations reports that young locusts are threatening pastures and crops in Somalia, endangering over 10 million people. These locusts are expected to mature and spread to Ethiopia and Kenya, where precautionary measures are being taken. The outbreak is linked to heavy rains and a cyclone in late 2019, with more rain expected, potentially increasing locust numbers. Dominique Virgin from the Food and Agriculture Organization warns of another locust generation due to favorable moisture conditions.
