Otto Pérez Molina, former president of Guatemala, received a 16-year prison sentence for leading a major customs fraud network, forcing his resignation in 2015. He was found guilty of illicit association and customs fraud, receiving two eight-year sentences. His former vice president, Roxana Valdetti, received an identical sentence. Both were acquitted of illicit enrichment. Pérez Molina plans to appeal. The case, known as La Línea, involved tax evasion in customs, uncovered by the local prosecutor's office and the UN-backed CICIG. The fraud involved $3.5 million in bribes and nearly $10 million in tax evasion between 2013 and 2015.
