VOICED : Fiscalia tiene luz verde para investigar a Otto Perez

The Guatemalan Congress has lifted the immunity of President Otto Pérez, allowing the Fiscalía to investigate him for corruption. The Constitutional Court unanimously rejected amparo resources, exposing him to ordinary justice for leading a customs fraud structure. Although he can remain in office, a preventive prison order could lead to his immediate removal. The case, revealed in April, led to mass protests and the resignation of Vice President Roxana Valdetti, who is in preventive detention for her alleged role in the fraud.
