VOICED : Guardias de Auschwitz en la mira

The German service investigating Nazi crimes has decided to bring to justice the cases of 30 former Auschwitz guards for complicity in murder. Over 6,000 people worked at Auschwitz, where more than a million Jews, Roma, homosexuals, and political opponents died. The German service has conducted over 7,000 investigations since 1958 but lacks the authority to initiate legal proceedings, leaving it to prosecutors to decide on filing charges. For over 60 years, German courts only tried those with direct evidence against them. However, a 2011 conviction of a Ukrainian guard set a legal precedent by finding him guilty of participating in the murder of 28,000 Jews, establishing that working as a guard at an extermination camp is sufficient for conviction.
