In 2008, it was officially classified as a dwarf planet. Haumea's name is derived from Hawaiian culture, meaning the goddess of childbirth and fertility. It has two moons, Hayaka and Namaka, and takes 285 Earth years to orbit the sun. Haumea's surface is rocky and thin, and it rotates rapidly, completing a day in 3.9 hours.
