Ultraviolet light, with a wavelength between 10 and 400 nanometers, is mostly blocked by Earth's atmosphere. Prolonged exposure can lead to burns and skin cancer. UV light has numerous applications, including disinfection, sterilization, leak detection, safety labeling, and special lighting effects.
