The country has maintained stable rice prices by purchasing in advance. Madagascar aims to double its agricultural production by 2009 and triple it by 2012 to achieve self-sufficiency. However, concerns remain about future price fluctuations and the need to import 10% of its rice. The harvesting season provides temporary relief, but the country will soon need to rely on foreign markets again.
