TED-Ed: The Norse myth that inspired "The Lord of the Rings" | Iseult Gillespie

Odin, Hoenir, and Loki travel to Nidavellir, where Loki kills an otter, unknowingly the son of King Hreidmar. To atone, they must fill the otter's pelt with gold. Loki tricks Andvari, a dwarf, into giving up his treasure, including a cursed ring. The ring brings doom to its owners, starting with Hreidmar, then Fafnir, who becomes a dragon. Sigurd, aided by Regin, kills Fafnir but learns of Regin's betrayal and kills him too. The cursed ring continues to wreak havoc, inspiring tales of tragedy and greed.
