Burning ship dumps ecological hell on Sri Lanka’s beaches

Sri Lanka faces an environmental disaster as the container ship Express Pearl, carrying plastic pellets, oil, and chemicals, sank off its coast. The ship, which left Hazira for Colombo, leaked nitric acid and was denied docking in Qatar and India. A fire broke out, believed to be caused by the acid, and burned for two weeks, releasing toxins and plastic pellets into the ocean. These pellets have polluted Sri Lanka's beaches and may reach as far as India, Indonesia, and Somalia.
